Our research focuses mainly on the evolution of osmoregulatory patterns and gill ion transport mechanisms in the Crustacea, particularly the challenge of occupying freshwater and semi-terrestrial habitats. We employ ultrastructural, biochemical, physiological and molecular biology methodologies to investigate structure-function relationships at the molecular, cellular and systemic levels. These findings are interpreted using quantitative phylogenetic and comparative analyses.
A second interest focuses on the cellular mechanisms of adaptive color change using a synthetic neuropeptide (red pigment concentrating hormone) to investigate signal transduction and the intracellular cascades leading to molecular motor activation in pigment cells, the chromatophores.
